HoReCo-NYAGISENYI/RUFIGIZA SCHEME: NEW IRRIGATION TECHNIQUES WILL REVITALIZE RWANDA’S AGRICULTURE.
Irrigation systems are great for areas that tend to get very hot and experience drought. An irrigation system will ensure food security but also increase yields for increased production for trade. Irrigation systems’ major benefit is water conservation and preservation.
HoReCo in partnership with AGRIBELICO introduced new irrigation machines in Rwanda in order to demonstrate the advantages of irrigation scheduling by comparing different methods of irrigation scheduling and thus will help farmers to irrigate their crops whenever and wherever.
However, if you look at the situation deeper, we need to move to advanced methods of farming for very obvious; higher yields which can lead to self reliance.
HoReCo irrigation engineer in Nyagisenyi-Rufigiza scheme say that pressurized Irrigation (secondary water) is a system that takes reservoir water and distributes it through pressure pipes to farms.
Modern irrigation systems offer sustainable and more consistent production and yields. It is more resilient to climate and weather changes and allows for year round farming. In times where agriculture is developing into agribusiness, this is paramount.
