NYAGISENYI – RUFIGIZA: HoReCo AGRONOMISTS ARE HELPING FARMERS OF VEGETABLES MAKING BROCCOLLI AND CUCUMBER VARIETY TRIALS

Broccoli and cucumber farming can be the good sources of income for  farmers of Nyagisenyi-Rufigiza scheme  because of only a few farmers aware about how to grow broccoli and cucumber varieties as well as their marketing.  HoReCo agronomists who coach farmers day to day in the scheme  are running trials of different varieties in the scheme and if are successful farmers are ready to extend the area of  those vegetables growing.

HoReCo agronomists say that in their vegetable Farming Systems Trial, the land starts as conventional. Over time, they observe that the organic systems in that trial have improved soil health.

Broccoli and cucumber are tasty to eat and use these vegetables in Salad as well. Currently, these vegetable have been known in Rwanda and its consumption has increased in the big hotels of Rwanda.

Farmers Nyagisenyi-Rufigiza scheme say that after harvesting onfarm trial broccoli and cucumber farming, are expecting to extend the cultivation area and harvesting much money as they have potential markets.
