HoReCo Advances Youth Empowerment Through YEA-R Program Agribusiness Learning Visits
On 13 March 2026, HoReCo participated in strategic field learning visits under the YEA-R Program, reaffirming its commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and inclusive agribusiness growth in Rwanda.
The YEA-R Program is funded by Mastercard Foundation and implemented by a consortium led by SNV Rwanda. The initiative seeks to create 40,000 dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities for young people in Rwanda’s agri-food sector by 2029, with particular emphasis on young women and young people with disabilities.
As part of the horticulture value chain activities, technical staff from HoReCo and Imbaraga Farmers Organization conducted a learning visit to SUNRIPE Farm in Nyamata. The 30-hectare commercial farm showcased innovative and diversified vegetable production systems, with tomatoes and cucumbers cultivated in greenhouses, while chilli peppers and French beans were grown in open fields.
The visit offered participants practical insights into modern horticultural production techniques, climate-smart agriculture, operational efficiency, and farm management practices that can enhance productivity, quality standards, and market competitiveness.
Simultaneously, a parallel learning engagement took place at the Rutsiro Model Poultry Unit located in Rutsiro District under the poultry value chain component. Participants reviewed the proposed poultry house model and engaged in technical knowledge exchange on poultry production systems, biosecurity protocols, and sustainable farm management practices.
These field engagements demonstrate HoReCo’s continued dedication to experiential learning, innovation transfer, and building the capabilities of young people to succeed in agribusiness. Through strategic partnerships and practical exposure, HoReCo remains committed to supporting a resilient, inclusive, and commercially driven agricultural sector in Rwanda.
