Date: August 9th, 2024
Location: Gatsibo District, Rwanda
This past Friday, August 9th, marked an exciting and impactful continuation of the OCP School Lab campaign in Gatsibo District. Organized in partnership with Rwanda Fertiliser Company and HoReCo, Day 2 of the campaign further solidified our commitment to supporting local farmers and enhancing sustainable agriculture practices in the region.
A Day Dedicated to Empowering Farmers
The focus of the day was on providing hands-on support to farmers through soil sampling, extensive training sessions, and the introduction of sustainable maize cultivation methods. These activities are designed to help farmers understand the unique needs of their soil, allowing them to optimize fertilizer use and improve crop yields.
Our team of experts, alongside agronomists from Rwanda Fertiliser Company and HoReCo, worked closely with the farmers, demonstrating the importance of soil health and how it directly impacts crop productivity. Farmers were given the tools and knowledge needed to assess soil quality and make informed decisions about the types of fertilizers and techniques most suitable for their land.
Training for a Sustainable Future
Training sessions held throughout the day focused on sustainable maize cultivation practices, an essential crop in Rwanda’s agricultural landscape. The sessions covered best practices in planting, crop management, and harvesting, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in ensuring long-term productivity and environmental health.
These efforts are not just about improving the immediate harvest; they are about equipping farmers with the skills and knowledge to ensure the success of their farms for generations to come. By fostering a deep understanding of sustainable practices, we are helping to secure a prosperous future for the entire community.
A Collaborative Effort
The success of the OCP School Lab campaign in Gatsibo is a testament to the power of collaboration. The partnership between Rwanda Fertiliser Company and HoReCo is a shining example of how collective efforts can drive significant change at the grassroots level.
