Empowering Farmers in Kirehe: A Collaborative Effort for Sustainable Agriculture

This past Friday, 23rd August, marked a significant milestone in HoReCo’s ongoing commitment to empowering local farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture in Rwanda. In collaboration with the Rwanda Fertiliser Company (RFC), our CEO and staff participated in the first day of the OCP School Lab initiative in Kirehe, where we joined forces with RFC’s Head of Business Development and the Agronomy Department to make a lasting impact on the local farming community.

A Day Dedicated to Farmer Empowerment

The day was filled with activities designed to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed. Our teams worked together to conduct soil sampling, an essential step in understanding the specific needs of the land and ensuring that crops receive the right nutrients. These efforts are crucial for improving crop yields and promoting sustainable farming practices.

In addition to soil sampling, we also led training sessions focused on sustainable maize cultivation practices. These sessions aimed to educate farmers on techniques that not only boost productivity but also protect and preserve the environment for future generations. By advocating for these practices, we’re helping to build a brighter future for our community, where agriculture thrives in harmony with nature.

A Partnership for Progress

The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the strong partnership between HoReCo and Rwanda Fertilizer Company (RFC). Their expertise and dedication played a crucial role in the day’s achievements, and we are grateful for their collaboration. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of local farmers, empowering them to adopt sustainable practices that will benefit both their livelihoods and the environment.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our work in Kirehe and beyond, HoReCo remains committed to fostering partnerships that drive positive change in the agricultural sector. The OCP School Lab is just one example of how we are working to uplift our communities through education, innovation, and sustainable practices.

We extend our sincere thanks to Rwanda Fertilizer Company (RFC) for their invaluable partnership in this important initiative. Together, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for farmers in Rwanda.
