Continuing the Journey: Day 2 of the OCP School Lab in Kirehe

This past Friday, 30th August, marked the continuation of HoReCo’s commitment to empowering farmers in Kirehe through the OCP School Lab initiative. Building on the momentum from Day 1, our CEO and dedicated staff, in partnership with the Rwanda Fertiliser Company (RFC), carried forward the mission to enhance sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers.

Strengthening Farmer Knowledge

The second day of the OCP School Lab was focused on deepening the farmers’ understanding of soil health and its critical role in crop production. Our teams collaborated closely with RFC’s Head of Business Development and the Agronomy Department to conduct more extensive soil sampling. This hands-on approach allowed farmers to witness firsthand the importance of soil analysis in determining the best fertilization strategies for their crops.

In addition to soil sampling, the day featured advanced training sessions on sustainable maize cultivation practices. These sessions built on the foundational knowledge shared on the first day, introducing new techniques that align with the principles of environmental stewardship and long-term agricultural sustainability. By equipping farmers with this knowledge, we are helping to ensure that they can achieve higher yields while maintaining the health of their land for future generations.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of Day 2 was made possible through the continued partnership between HoReCo and Rwanda Fertilizer Company (RFC). Their expertise and resources have been instrumental in driving the OCP School Lab’s goals forward, and we are thankful for their ongoing support. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the farmers we serve, helping them to adopt practices that will lead to greater productivity and sustainability.

Looking Forward

As the OCP School Lab progresses, HoReCo remains committed to empowering local farmers through education and innovation. Day 2 of the initiative was another step toward realizing our vision of a more prosperous and sustainable future for agriculture in Rwanda.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rwanda Fertilizer Company (RFC) for their continued partnership in this vital initiative. Together, we are creating lasting change and building a brighter future for our communities.
